In a dialogue between Ama Town and designer Makoto Umebara, the phrase "What we don't have" was born to symbolize Ama Town and to proudly express the island's unique way of life, charm, and individuality. In the same year, Ama Town declared that there is "Naimono wa nai" in the town, and redesigned its staff business cards and PR posters with Ama Town's unique design.

At the annual conference of the International Society for Quality-of-Life Studies(ISQOLS) held at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, we presented the results of our joint research with environmental journalist Junko Edahiro and Ama Town.Overall, the conference was attended by 339 people from 38 countries around the world.
